黑枝包括刀状黑黄檀、黑黄檀、阔叶黄檀等，而红酸枝则包括巴里黄檀、交趾黄檀等。与红酸枝相比，黑酸枝的一个明显特点是心材和边材的颜色鲜明，心材呈黑褐色，纹理清晰，而边材多为浅黄色。
